To all those who burned me in effigy for comparing Soulja Boy to J.J. Redick or just filled out an application to Kaplan University Online under my name and cell phone number, I get the point.

No this is not a post about Blur, although now that I think about it I might have to listen to them on my drive into work tomorrow. No, this would be the second song that is going to go onto my annual Christmas Mix and I promised myself I would do 10 of these. No order in particular, but they all are songs I had not heard until this year. This cut comes off of the newest album from Atmosphere. This was an album I had been waiting for, and once I got it I was not disappoin... MORE

XXL Mag just came out with their year-end Love/Hate issue. One of the many categories is "videos." As a public service, I wanted to put you all up on the list of Top 5 vids the staff peeped in '08.

Theme: And the streets say T.I. can't go back home/You know when he heard that? When he was back home.
"Flashing Lights" (Kanye West)

Was just listening to this old Nas' song...
You should live, there's only one life that's the physical
Rich or poor in jail why the fuck should you be miserable
Love could have your heart beat skippin', thugs turn to religion
The bitch you love could start to hate you, the shit you use to do escape you
Things that make you laugh represent the past
Reminisce the block gamble gees on the floor
Niggas use to be the man, you don't see 'em no more
Your favorite restaurants and favorite... MORE

Here's an old Kanye song that was never released. It's always been one of my favorites. That beat is infectious and the lyrics are on some crazy wordplay using different movie titles. Here is a slice of Kanye way before the days of 808s and Heartbreaks for all of you who aren't feeling the man vs. robot sound and are craving some vintage 'Ye.

Truth is I am under the gun for exams and feeling the heat. But I wanted to celebrate the Mog Revolution, why we came here in the first place. The only constant in this world of illusion is change itself. So celebrate your liberation! And if you are digging ths Madlib remix of Bobbi Humphrey featuring the late great J Dilla on the vox, then you will probably dig this free mixtape of Talib Kweli and Madlib. This bowl of Oatmeal is half full (not half empty)!
Caught LB with his sick band featuring his wife Joyo Velarde who has pipes from another world. She blew me away with a lot of soul. It hit me kind of hard, or maybe it was the subs that I was standing right next to. It was actually quite funny in fact, they didn't turn the subs on until the 4th song...and when they did...yeah, it felt like a soundwave of feeling up. I was actually worried my iphone was going to crack or something under the tremendous bass. LB lit i... MORE

To narrow things down into a top ten with Kanye’s production was very difficult. I had to take various things into account. Impact, delivery , execution, creativity, flow, sound, blends, choruses, skips, timing, etc. Man, the list goes on. A lot of you guys are producers so you understand where I am coming from on [...]

I feel Mr West on this record which opens the experiment album titled "808 and heartbreaks".I added my own story at about 1:34 or so,not to take away from the vibe i hope, but just to add a no auto-tuned function into the mix.The hey, hey, hey that kanye sings after every 8 measures serves as the driving force for this record in my opinion and that is what inspired me to write my verse, while driving lol(dont try it).Say you will hiolla....moglife
If you actually are a real hip-hop fan you can see that '08 wasn't that bad of a year for Hip-Hop. I thought it was actually a good year in recent memory (2005 was a low-point in Hip-Hop for me). I feel there was plenty of real MC's and producers makin that quality rap music to keep you way from R&B-ish radio music that some how gets away with being called Hip-Hop. For every Plies, Lil Booise, Ace Hood or whatever else that was popular this year there was Reks, The Roots,... MORE
