Stumbled across this old Mississippi John Hurt video discussing and performing "Steel Driving Man." Pete Seeger is the interviewer.
I don't know anybody who can listen to MJH without being completely captivated. Not by his technique, which is entirely his and brilliant in its own right, but by the fact that each note rides from his guitar on a wave of soulful intention.
There is no better Sunday afternoon listening for my money, anywhere.

Everyone is starting to make their top ten albums of 2008 already, and it's starting to make me mad. I never understood making that list in November. For one thing the year isn't over, and there could be an album that could surprise you, even if you don't know it's coming out. But also, I just like making that list around Christmas and New Years. Call it a Holiday tradition of sorts. But I'm also in a sort of list making mood, so here we go.

A tape played at the Boy George trial in London has George admitting that he chained a male escort to the wall of his apartment but that he had no intention of hurting the man and did not hit him with a chain.
