So 2009 is shaping up to be the year I get my U2 on and on and ON.  It was announced today that the Davis Guggenheim documentary, It Might Get Loud, has been picked up for distribution in North America by Sony Classics.  The documentary which celebrates the electric guitar features Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White.  For more info on the film check Charley R's fabulous post .  Sony says they plan to open the film in summer 2009. Meanwhile, "scholars, teachers, students,... MORE

HOW GOOD IS THIS!!!??? - NUMBER 14

Artist:
Other Tags: Light Shows, concerts
I’ve been thinking… Q: What makes for a great live performance - apart from the music itself? A great lightshow that relates to the music, An atmospheric crowd with much whooping and screaming, A good old sing along, (perhaps even better when the frontman lets let the crowd sing on their own?) A great soundsystem, An appropriately sized venue for the artist, Any homecoming [...]

Bono and Edge have written 18 tracks for Spider-Man: The Musical, a $25m production that is due to open in New York in October 2009.

The band will rework some of the musical numbers and include them on the album, which is due to follow their next release this November.

$495 had been raised today, as of 10 AM EST, in a petition effort to get U2 frontman Bono to "retire from public life." Started via ThePoint.com, a Web site that lets anyone start a campaign. the petition's goal is "to get Bono to retire from public life (so he'll stop leading misguided counter-productive philanthropy efforts) ....and, simultaneously.... to make a huge donation to fight AIDS." The sit... MORE

Don't go looking underneath your Christmas tree or Menorah for the new U2 album. The follow up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb won't be coming out till early '09. Dayum! That's five years in between! "We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein and we don’t want to stop," Bono explained of pushing back the release on the band's Web site. "This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again." WARNING: Bono getting very Bono here. "We have what it takes, we have the so... MORE

If anyone has been wondering if I'm upset about the delay of U2's latest album, the answer would be YES.  I have been too upset to discuss it.  I've been employing my "pretend it doesn't exist and maybe it won't be true" method of dealing with things. Well this morning I was reading my favorite U2 fansite, @U2, and they gave me a reason to smile.  Evidently, every time U2 has released an album in a U.S. presidental election year, the Republican candidate has won.  This st... Blog post image previewHehe so this is really not about music. But if life is a song, then this at least is a little cowbell that kicks off the chorus. I got an invite yesterday, that I'd like to share with any New Yorker with or without balls or bucks. A friend of a comedian friend Molly Crabapple (real name or not real name that is the question) is hosting the unveiling of her piece (small version is below) called Sexual Congress at the Museum of Sex. Molly Crabapple's Sexual Politics Sa... MORE

Bono Says New U2 Album Has "Trance Influences"

Artist:
Other Tags: daniel lanois, Brian Eno
Blog post image previewBono recently shed some more info on what the new U2 album, the one that the band began working on in Morocco earlier this year, would sound like to The Independent. "All the band went to an amazing religious music festival in Fez with some incredible sufi singers," Bono said of the band's initial foray. "It was a real humbling thing for a punk rock shouter, listening to these people who just close their eyes for 40 minutes and sing the most sophisticated melodies." "W... MORE

I was going to start this series with a post titled 'Lay Of The Land'. In it I was going to explain some of the topography of Bethlehem, you know talk about the hills and river and the awesome trout stream running nearby, but as luck or unluck would have it, I have something else to talk about. Especially while it is fresh in my memory. First a shout out to U2. When 'Boy' came out in 1980 I was probably listening to crap rock. What did I know I was 10 for God sakes. 1... MORE
