Just been reading on Billboard.com that a biopic of The Mamas & The Papas is in the offing, based on Michelle Phillips' 1986 autobiography. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003593088 Who knows if it will ever reach the screen, as the majority of these kind of projects often collapse due to lack of funding, wrangles over royalties for the music, and, not least, the thorny question of casting. it's funny how I usually equate a song with a movie. the other day i was going through some of my old foreign dvd's and noticed Wong Kar-wai's "Chungking Express". without giving away the plot: it concerns the stories of two unrelated cops # 223 & 663 and the women they meet.
the song that comes to mind since i am partial towards the story of Cop #663 is The Mamas And The Papas "California Dreamin".

Denny Doherty, one-quarter of the 1960s folk-rock group the Mamas and the Papas, known for their soaring harmony on hits like "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday," died Friday at 66.
