Blog post image preview It’s Memorial Day, and I’ve been spending the long weekend in Monterey with my brother and his family. Nothing remarkable there. Just a chance to take a break from the concerts and screenings and the San Fran-to-Los Angeles commute that’s been my lot of late. Not every human can or will say this, but it’s a joy for me to hang out with the relatives. Both of the nieces, now 16 and 5 ½, are a particular kick, especially for their music-loving uncle. The little one and m... MORE

Blog post image preview I always wondered how people got the energy to work a full day at work then come home and do home renovation projects. Then we found out we will be traveling in 2-3 weeks to bring home our son. Deadlines have a way of focusing the mind. And since I'm trying to drink less than 4 cups of joe a day, I needed something to keep me going. Enter my friend and co-worker who earned EMCD status by passing me a copy of The Fratellis Costello Music. My wife is now officially ... MORE

This one is _"For the Girl"_ ;) So this is how it's done !!! A man in a suit rings my bell & suddenly I am holding in my hands an oversized package from you know who !!! Oh... you don't ?!? Well I do. & for some truly strange reason... I thought it might be just who it is & let me just say... I am one lucky & one happily blissed out girl with the eyes of green. Not only did my beloved SS send chocolates in a Santa stocking, a card that means the world to me & a fa... MORE

Blog post image preview

The Fratellis rose quickly to fame in their native UK (they hail from Scotland) with their debut 2006 album "Costello Music". This is from their latest release "Here We Stand", and I have to admit they are sucking me in. These are 3 brothers who are having some fun, and are passing that fun on to us. Damn if I don't appreciate it!!

A friend described the Fratellis as sounding like "Jack White singing OK Go songs." I'm not sure if this description really makes sense, but it does imply a certain energy that I love. The Fratellis play incredibly catchy, upbeat, bouncy tunes that I can never get enough of, and this one is always one of my favorites.

Cerca nel blog Lug 10 2008 La banda Fratelli (mi ricorda molto quel film per bambini, come si chiama… "The Goonies" ecco!) esce con un nuovo album, Here We Stand. MORE

The Fratellis Boston show at the Paradise was fantastically fun. They have an amazing energy in their albums and on stage. The Paradise is an incredibly intimate venue, I felt really lucky to see them there – I know that they sell out much larger venues in the UK.  They were also very kind about signing things afterwards! They're only playing two more US dates in San Francisco and Seattle, go check it out if you can!

I love the Fratellis. I just thought that you should know that. It's a relationship that's been in the making, and I've decided that it's true. You should definately listen to them

Blog post image preview They're from northern enough England, that anytime they said anything between songs, I was confused. The only word I ever understood was "fucking." hahaha. They played just about everything off of Costello Music. Melissa really enjoyed herself, even though she didn't know any of it. Didn't even recognize the one apple has all over their iPod ads. Anyway. I highly suggest seeing them. And going to things at the Pabst. I really hope Polyphonic can get booked there in the f... MORE

Blog post image preview If you're like me, and I have a eerie feeling you probably are to some extent, you're half annoyed, half intrigued by the near constant flow of new post-punk pub bands who quantify themselves with the definite article "The" prefixing the noun of their name. The Strokes, The View, The Vines, The Bravery, The Futureheads, The Hives, The Killers, The Sounds, The Rapture, The Raveonettes....etc, etc, into infinity. Now this naming scheme is tried and true, I mean it basically... MORE
