In honor of the huge announcement that Prince is headlining Saturday night at Coachella, I decided to post a Prince tune...but in the spirit of the festival. After all, Coachella is nothing if not eclectic. So here is one of my absolute favorite bands, the Be Good Tanyas with their spin on a Prince classic

I can't get this out of my head. Possibly due to playing it so much. Originally came up in a thread in ngtivspace, but I think it deserves a headline of its own.
I would swap this one song for all of Patti Smith's Twelve.

I was on the road most of the day today...and I wasn't driving so I didn't have to focus on the mind numbing pretzel that IS the Los Angeles freeway system for a change. This allowed me to spend some quality time with my mp3 player. It's funny how you can listen to a song a hundred times and it never really means THAT much to you, then all of a sudden when it comes on via shuffle as you are caught in some nostalgic moment that same song can act as a sort of revelation. ... Well...its been like 3 weeks or so since I posted my last Be Good Tanyas song. Way too long. I have gone for weeks at a time and only listened to these ladies. They have such a sooting, almost therapeutic effect on me. My comfort music most definitely.

Every weekend my myspace page gets littered with oodles of offers to come out to clubs. I hate nightclubs. Really I do.
They were fun while I was in school and the couple of years after....but now when I drive by a place and i see people all dressed up, waiting in line to pay $10 to get in to some flavor of the month, wanna-be trendy nightspot...i think of this song...2nd verse

Man, I was reminded today of why I hate nightclubs! I am, if you didn't already know, a big fan of those Craigslist.com missed connections. They fascinate me, and I am almost 100% sure they have never, ever worked. How much do I love The Be Good Tanyas? Too much I'm sure...it's probably not healthy. But I am at peace with this, and moving on...and anyone who comes into my life is just going to have to accept the fact that me and these girls are a package deal.

I listened to the Be Good Tanyas all day today...love these songs, I mean I really, really love these songs. The albums 'Blue Horse' and 'Chinatown' especially...so here is a double dip for you...go buy these records...so good for the soul

Because as I said this morning, I love these ladies...and their natural, old-timey sound. And because this specific song has one of my all time favorite song lyrics in it:

So, how are people liking this new album? It's been three years, there have been babies born by band members- a lot has happened! I would love to hear impressions. As for me, I am loving it. The BGT's musical skills and sense continue to make me dance around the house and sing full voice when I have a sore throat. I have to say it's kind of odd without Jolie Holland in there, but I am enjoying her music separately too. Frazey, Trish, and Parton are complete on the... MORE
