"why is it every time i think about you/something that you have said or implied makes me doubt you/then i look into your cynical eyes and i know it/as if it never meant anything to me/parallel lines on a slow decline - tractor rape chain/better yet, let's all get wet on the tractor rape chain/speed up, slow down, go all around in the end" so sings Guided By Voices Robert Pollard from the classic "Bee Thousand" set. A set that set the bar to the indie scene circa 1... MORE
I feel like Guided By Voices this fine Monday... ...and I get the feeling I might feel like this every Monday into the distant future... ...here's a couple "must listens"... First up, from "Earthquake Glue," a doozy called "The Best of Jill Hives"... (Robert Pollard, lead singer/songwriter/all-round guru, apparently got the title to this song while snoozing while watching TV... what might have been "Days of our Lives" turned into the "Best of Jill Hives"... or so... I'm offering up a game of Wormhole! to test out this whole new Mog layout. Heck I don't even know if posting songs in the comments is available anymore - and that's the crux of Wormhole!
I would watch the video and learn all about the NEW Mog, but then what would I do at work tomorrow.
I offer to you a meatball of a starter:
Mose Allion's "Back Country Suite: Blues (AKA Young Man Blues)"
I have Dzendvokh to thank for helping me figure out how to construct a little game out of posting a song on Mog and exploiting the comments section. Here are the rules I've flushed out so far, and are apt to change, seeing how it plays out with participation of you, fellow moggers! I haven't figured out how to make this competitive or points oriented, rather it works as a social networking game that players work together to build a mix.

There are a lot of great quality posts this Funky Friday. Here's a track I'm gonna offer up a track ripe with a recognizable sample for this game of Wormhole! Here's Kool Keith, before he was Dr. Octagon/Black Elvis/etc. with The Ultramagnetic MC's
Today, I present "Smothered in Hugs," because my sunshine fund is low and because it seems an appropriate send off for the lovely Matt Cullen. I hated this song when I first heard it, along with everything on Bee Thousand, an album so painfully low-fi that it smacked of a rich kid slumming. Seriously, unless you're living in a cave and recording with rocks, there's no reason for an album to sound that bad. But a musician whom I love and trust couldn't believe I didn't ... MORE
This song is truly a classic. It's a song that really gives you a feel of what it was probably like being a (then) 35 year old 4th grade school teacher, with different ambitions (like rocking out). I know Mr. Pollard was heavily criticized for leaving teaching for this more "unsteady" career. People in Dayton, Ohio just are not supposed to do that kind of thing. I also like how the video shows what life in Dayon must be like (hanging around outside, drinking beer) I am a... MORE
Ever have somebody in your life that you were just absolutely head over heels in love with...but they could just never get their demons in check? And you left because you had to...not because you wanted to...I did. I think about her from time time...and what could have been.I hope she's doing well...this song speaks to relationships like that better than I ever could. 'One day I will know it's a waste of time...and there's a better road ahead of me...I just don't how t... MORE
