Blog post image preview New England Patriots Cheerleader Angela. SportsBlogNflByBubba mailbag: By Bob Cerm | SportsByBrooks.com SbB Editor (Q.) I am a former Pro Football Player, so hopefully you’ll take my question! But 1st, Mr. nearly dead on correct about the outcome of that Broncos – Raiders game last week. ‘One bizarre thing leads to another’? I can’t believe that that actually happened, but for the Broncos instead! Well, it’s my turn this week. 1st of all let me just say, I’m Innocent... MORE

Now Debuting: One-Click Payment For Illegal Downloads

Posted by Tom Steinert-Threlkeld/ZDNet.com Frank Zappa again is a mother of invention. Since Friday, songs of the experimental musician, dead now for almost 15 years, have been used to test a one-click system for getting payments from individuals who download works of artists illegally.
The test is being

Pandora, Webcasting appear headed for Senate victory

Posted by Greg Sandoval/CNet.com Technology companies are supposed to be wide-eyed novices on Capitol Hill. I've read that they don't spread enough money around or aren't hip to the ways of Washington. Regardless of whether that's true, this weekend saw Pandora, a struggling music service, whip up enough support among fans of Web r

Doo Zap

(31)
Blog post image preview

Frank Zappa's 1968 doo wop pastiche album 'Crusing With Ruben and the Jets' is so lovingly and respectfully done that, despite his own description of it as 'greasy love songs & cretin simplicity', it has good claims to be the best doo wop album ever released. Unfortunately Frank couldn't resist tinkering with it in the digital age, and CD versions of the record are overdubbed with hideous bass and synth sounds that just about ruin every song. Thus Zappa used 80's stu... MORE

Crap. I can't find my favorite Frank Zappa clip on YouTube. It's his musical performance of "I'm the Slime" from the ’76 season of Saturday Night Live. It’s a classic. Back when there was no CGI or special effects, Zappa managed to have slime ooze out over a TV on the set. But, it doesn’t exactly ooze, it more like streamed down the TV set. Whatever speed the slime fell at the track is my favorite Zappa tune.

I recently read somewhere that Zappa was pushed off stage by a... MORE

Blog post image preview The people behind Zappanale Festival, the German-based Frank Zappa dedicated music festival, are being sued by Frank Zappa's widow. Gail Zappa believes that using her late husband's name has a price tag, a £200,000 price tag. She also has some other demands. Ms. Zappa wants to pick the acts performing and wants a new logo that doesn't carry Zappa's trademark stache on it. (The stache and goatee logo in question) But the Zappanale promoters are not backing down so ea... MORE

Nipple ring search procedures faulty, TSA admits

The Transportation Security Administration said Friday its officers at a Texas airport appear to have properly followed procedures when they allegedly forced a woman to remove her nipple rings -- one with pliers -- but acknowledged the procedures should be changed.
Mandi Hamlin, at center with attorney Gloria Allred, demonstrates how she removed her nipple ring.
The woman involved -- Mandi Hamlin -- told reporters earlier Frida

We got several inches of the wet white stuff yesterday but it was nothing compared to the Montana pictures I was looking at this morning. Maybe if you could play the song and watch the vid with the sound turned down it would give a Floyd in Oz sort of experience, maybe not. This is for all of you that might be snowblind this morning.

Somewhere, Frank Zappa Laughs Sardonically...

So i was looking at the ID3 tags someone put on a couple of mp3s of stuff by Frank Zappa, and whoever it was had marked the genre as "Alternative". I'm trying to imagine the reaction of the man who once described himself as "a composer who operates a guitar" at being put into the same category as REM... Hysterical laughter followed by a truly crushing put-down of the way that useful tags so quickly become nothing but tools for the hyopesters, likely. If you have a co... MORE

There used to be an old streetcar that was converted into a record store in downtown Toronto. My brother met Zappa and his band there while they hung out signing Zoot Allures. He's still got it.

and, after you digest that one, try this:

British author Terry Pratchett, in one of his hilarious (and often thought-provoking) "Discworld" fantasy novels (Soul Music, in which the Discworld goes through the entire history of rock and roll in about three weeks) has a sequence with a guitar maker telling the troll that works in his shop
