Blog post image previewAfter what seems like years of silence, Dr. Dre has finally poked his head out from underground. First by making an unexpected appearance at the VMA's earlier this month, now the super producer has finally spoken on the fight between his two artists. The problem is, nobody really cares about the 50 and Game feud anymore, so thats a mission accomplished for the good doctor. In a recent interview with MTV news, Dre had this to say about his stubborn crew members.

100 Albums That Changed Music - #99 - The Chronic

So following on from my previous post.... http://mog.com/RobinH/blog/185484 I must confess to never really getting big into Gangsta Rap, G-Funk, or Rap, for that matter. Sure, I got interested in Hip-Hop around the time of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's, 'The Message' and again around Salt'n Pepper's, Push It. But, of course, it's a million miles away from Dr Dre's, 'The Chronic', and despite being exposed to bands such as NWA and Public Enemy via friends who ha... MORE

Blog post image preview

Ya know, I started writing this long post explaining why this is Troy Powers' song of the day, but fuck it, I'll keep it short.  I've been accused of being a bad boyfriend on quite a few occasions.  And, honestly, I can't deny it.  I've been told that I'm selfish, and it's true.  As far as I'm concerned if people spent more time making themselves happy instead of trying to please other people or waiting for other people to please them, the world would be a much happier ... Blame Jimmy Iovine for Detox Delay

Artist:
Other Tags: Dr. Dre
Apparently the Universal Music Group head is OK with disappointing hip-hop heads across the globe.

When in an interview with Billboard Magazine about the status of Dr. Dre's upcoming album, Iovine explained that he encouraged Andre to focus on his protege Marshall rather than finish Detox .

Damn you, Jimmy! Damn you straight to hell!
So, let's move from a record that is coming out this year to some that aren't, like U2 and Eminem.

I met with the guys in U2, and the

Dr. Dre Breaks His Silence On "Detox"

Blog post image preview
In a rap world where every artist seems to be fighting for your attention, wearing loud jewelry and waving their arms saying "LOOK AT ME", Dr. Dre hardly ever says anything. Dr. Dre finally came out of his hole this weekend to promote a new line of headphones he created and was asked the inevitable question about "Detox". Snoop Dogg first reported that the project was near completion, and Dre confirmed the report to USA Today. "I'm just now — over the last couple of mo... MORE

Blog post image previewHow's this for irony: At the same time Dr. Dre releases his long-awaited Detox album, Drinks America will be releasing the first Dre-endorsed alcoholic beverages. Europe will soon have access to Aftermath Cognac as well as sparkling vodka drinks from Drinks America's joint partnership with Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M Records. Somehow, the partnership intends to cross market the album and the drinks, though it sounds like a bad pairing. But, I guess it's not much diffe... MORE

According to data provided to Billboard from Yahoo, music fans are twice as more likely to use Wikipedia for information instead of a bands official website or myspace page. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but it spells out the message that fans want their information delivered in a simple and easy manner.
"The interest that people had to go to MySpace to find out more about their favorite band is waning in favor of going to Wikipedia," Yahoo head of programmi... MORE

Study: Rap music glamorizes drug use

A recent study by Addiction Research & Theory claims hip hop music portrays marijuana and cocaine as symbols of wealth and status. After sampling lyrics from nearly 400 rap songs between 1979 and 1997, researchers found references to drugs had increased six-fold.
I wonder how much money they wasted doing this research? I have a few studies of my own to report, feel free to add on with your own.

Dr. Dre Files Lawsuit Against Former Label Death Row Records

Free music video of Nuthin' But A "G" Thang (55)
Dr. Dre recently filed a lawsuit to obtain documentation from Death Row Records that relate to his music. The issue deals mostly with the royalties owed to Dre for his album The Chronic which was released at a time when he owned half of Death Row Records. When Dre gave up ownership of his half of the label, he retained his royalty rights, which Dre alleges hasn't been paid. The suit also points out the breach of contract that Death Row created when they sold their catal... MORE

Earlier this year, Bruce Williams, the longtime right hand man of Dr. Dre, wrote a tell-all book chronicling their relationship. One story in the book claimed the reverend Al Sharpton coerced Dr. Dre into donating 500k to Sharpton’s organization. This was in response to 50 Cent's rivalry with The Game and their altercation that led to a man being shot in the leg. If Dr. Dre failed to comply with the "donation" Sharpton would launch a full scale PR attack on Dre's label a... MORE

Every major hip hop artist is marketing a drink these days and Dre wasn't about to be left out. The Grammy-winning producer will be the face of a premium cognac, a sparkling vodka and possibly a premium tequila in the future. Dr. Dre was approached by Drinks Americas and they decided to form a partnership "to identify, develop, and market premium non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages" according to CNN. CNN also reported a statement from the President & Chief Executive O... MORE
