accidental babies ~ damien rice "and i know i make you cry,
and i know sometimes you want to die
but do you really feel alive
without me?" today the music is speaking to me
carrying me off to an embrace of melody
the trigger-gun reaction of emotive lyrical flash-floods
with every song that shuffles towards me
i am gifted something impossible to turn from
or ignore
today i feel the music sweeping through me
lilting, luscious, lush
as i try to wash clean a grey day
a grey mood

^ (ref to title) ^ i think thats the Tegan lyric... dont ya love that? when you have a favorate song that you turn up load everytime in your car and you're singing the lyrics that you think are the lyrics but yet you really have no idea what they are... it just sounds about right to you.. which reminds me.. Story time. my friend and i where on a roadtrip last new years and there was a song off the damien rice album (9) and i can't remember the track name, but th... MORE
FIRST MOG POST. As of today, only one artist comes to mind when I feel chipper, depressed, tired, angry or defiant. His name is Damien Rice, and he's most probably the only artist who has catered to all the emotions that have raced in my head. My iTunes playlists used to be sorted depending on the emotions that they channel or relieve when I listen to them. Post-hardcore and emo tunes when I'm frustrated, folk music when I'm lazy or sleepy, Bloc Party and indietronica on... MORE

Leave me out with the waste This is not what I do It's the wrong kind of place To be thinking of you It's the wrong time For somebody new It's a small crime And I've got no excuse
Is that alright with you? Give my gun away when it's loaded That alright with you? If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it Is that alright with you? Give my gun away when it's loaded Is that alright with you? With you

Last Thursday I saw one of my favorite concerts of this year. Damien Rice played the Mann Center, and it was both heart-breaking and exhilarating. Here's my review: "I feel naked," our friend leaned over and whispered. We nodded our head. "Exposed, but in a good way," we replied, in awe of the man who was causing this feeling. It was the third song in and Damien Rice was alone on the stage, bathed in red light, with only his voice and his guitar. He sang, "It's not tha... MORE
i've been clearing out my cell phone and shifting my life into minimalization mode (mexico'll do that to you) and i discovered some videos i shot from when i saw damien rice open for fiona apple at the shoreline ampitheater last year. then i started thinking about when i lived in scotland. one of my flatmates (a depressed cutter being horribly abused by a fuckhole "friend" of her family) introduced me to damien rice. she also introduced me to nick drake. i loved her f... Great show tonight...I was disappointed heading into the show, knowing that Lisa Hannigan who was prominently featured on both of his albums had recently stopped touring with Damien to record her own album, but that disappointment faded quickly. From the first few notes of the show opener '9 Crimes' through the entire set, the energy and intensity never waned....just a great show. The set was heavy on material from the debut album, with an occasional song from his second... MORE
Well, my good Real Life friend (and fellow MoGger)Teejalo and I are both avid mix CD makers. Not to mistake "avid" for anything akin to "overzealous" (though we are quite passionate) or "overabundant in our ourput" (though we may produce many CDs, it is only because we have devoted so much more time to music). I digress.Recently Teej 'challenged' me, so to speak, for each of us to make a CD of the same theme. For the task of choosing the theme, we turned to our good friend... MORE
First MOG post! Yay.
Okay, so I've always been a really big Damien Rice fan. From the moment I first heard Cannonball, I knew I was in love. Even still, when '9' came out, I didn't get it right away. Don't ask me why, I really don't know. I was just as excited about it as all my other DR-obsessed friends, but for some reason I have a problem actually buying albums. I always just figure why waste my money when I'll just steal someone else's album off iTunes, you know?

On May 31st, Damien Rice played the Orpheum in Memphis. I had seen him live before at the Pageant in St. Louis with the Frames (it's one of my first posts), and somehow again, I caught the last show of this U.S. run. There was a lot of great moments (like a dramatic re-enactment of Cheers Darlin'), but the absolute highlight had to be Accidental Babies. This song kills me anyway (I'll try to remember to post the lyrics below), but this version was just him alone at the ... MORE
