Record Review: "Alive 2007" by Daft Punk

(413)
Let this serve as a warning, gentle reader. A record exec acquaintance passed me a copy of Daft Punk's previous album _Human After All_ about three months before its official release. When friends visited the flat I would casually slip on the CD. I imagined they would exclaim “Wow, where did you get that?!”. To which I would reply with a knowing wink, “I’m not at liberty to divulge that information.” Sadly, that scenario didn't go as planned. The album wasn't very good a... MORE

A question for today? How can live electronica blow my mind so HARD? How could the anti-heroes in Daft Punk turn club music into a full blown concert experience??? Ask anyone who saw them at Coachella last year....they owned the place. Anyway today I leave you Friday partyers with a cut from Daft Punk's latest live disc _Alive 2007_, "Around The World > Harder Better Faster Stronger" and at Coachella 06

while I was enjoying my morning cop-o-java, made from the cheapest coffee my company could buy, and chowing on a tasty nature Valley granola bar, I came across a great blog post by my good friend ADAH, met her through a mutual friend Dansemcabre. It seems that the website Vanatta created, MOGPEEPS, is only frequented by Tyler Durden, Adah, and Dansemcabre, despite 30+ members -> anyway, on ADAH's home page, she linked me to one of her ethoteric posts, she teaches ethoteri... Blog post image preview According to their ex-manager Busy P, the duo have finally started work on a follow up to 2005's Human After All in Paris. "The boys are in a studio in Paris at the moment. And I can't wait to listen to their new stuff! The good thing is that they are making music at the moment. "They are slow, you know, they are taking their time, and they have a right." NME News

One of the videos in "Musique Vol. I 1993 - 2005". For me, the CD from this compilation goes from great to plain good about halfway in, and I just saw them not long ago with their new show everyone is talking about, but this video makes me wish I could have seen them back then really bad. A far rawer setup, way more hardware oriented and no pyrotechnics in comparison, but still awesome.

Every few weeks I like to go check out the most popular music videos at youtube. It's pretty simple, just go here. At the moment, here they are:Britney Spears - Piece Of Me (Love that monotone singing with digitial pitch correction...will it be long before there is a "Sound-like-Britney" plug-in for ProTools? Easy on the eyes though.) Chris Brown - With You (Super simple production really lets his voice steal the show) Tay Zonday - Cherry Chocolate Rain (Web just... MORE

Blog post image preview I was lucky my friend DJ had another friend who bailed at the last minute because by the time I looked for a ticket they were sold OUT. After their pyramid robot spaceship landed it began spewing rhythmic columns of lightsmoke. Photo courtesy of DJ's iPhone (which I think looks pretty good in a low-light seriously jostling crowd context). And again, this time with silhouettes of those masked figures. The light show was seriously cool, starting out simple with timed... MORE

Blog post image preview I was just talking to my roommates about how concert promoters have a way of hyping a show/band that can make you feel duped afterward. Back in 1997 I saw the first OzzFest tour. It was billed as the last time Black Sabbath (w/ Mike Bordin filling in for original drummer Bill Ward) would play. The lineup included Pantera and Marilyn Manson. But then the next year they did it again, complete with the full original Black Sabbath lineup. WTF? Flash forward to the spring ... MORE
