review i did for fasterlouder.com.au The 2004 documentary DiG! gave the world an insight into the fractious and tumultuous background of the Brian Jonestown Massacre (BJM) and in particular the brittle musical genius of Anton Newcombe. While the movie for the most part ultimately reduced the band to providing the musical and mental sideshow for a neat few hours of entertainment, the fact is this; they are still living this life and continuing their vision even after the c... Well, this song is probably one of my favorite of BJM, and is also on my favorite album of theirs: THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES SECOND REQUEST. All of their albums are killer, but I feel this one flows the best. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of the girl's name who sings this song: Anenome. Item 1: Gimme Some Money, by The Thamesmen
Item 2: Got My Eye on You, by Brian Jonestown Massacre
This isn't the only song to employ those awesome bratty/whiny vocal stylings, but for some reason this one has the strongest Spinal Tap resonance for me.
I updated this mix with suggestions from other Moggers (thanks!) that I could find on eMusic/ iTunes. I was originally going for something dark and creepy (Eurythmics' Jennifer, Jennifer's Veil, Jennifer's Body and Jenny was a Friend of Mine), but I found some catchy uptempo numbers like: Jenny Come On by Dressy Bessy, Jennifer by Brian Jonestown Massacre, 27 Jennifers, and Jennifer by Bikeride. I'm giving it to my friend Jen who just turned (gasp) 30. Jennifer by: Eu... MORE
so, does anyone have a homemade DVD of all the BJM parts of Dig? that would be awesome. that, and the part where Anton hears Cortney's "new song" in the car. man, the look on Anton's face is priceless. wish there was a youtube clip of that scene. so yeah, i'm a late bloomer and have been listening to a lot of BJM recently, even though I've seen them like 3-4 times I never bought their albums. i'm a jerk, i know.
