The cliche "youth was served" gets turned on its ear more and more, now that octogenarian rockers still seem fit enough to get off their sagging rumps to regroup. The Cure have been pancaking their wrinkly asses and serving troubled teens and dark adults tales black bile for over 30 years now. Fittingly, a new tribute double album will celebrate the music of the long-running band. Perfect as Cats: A Tribute to The Cure will be released October 28 on Manimal Vinyl an... MORE

Bat For Lashes' lovely Natasha Khan is preparing to go back in the studio to record a second album. Khan begins recording the follow-up to Fur and Gold next week in New York. According to NME:
Khan claims the album will have a darker, more electronic feel than her more pastoral, keyboard-led debut, saying: “I don't think it could be too wildly different because it always comes from the heart and that's coming from the same place, but I think it's gonna be more visceral,... MORE
Cheating in life is an inevitable fact. I am always fascinated by how technology embeds itself in our life, offers to free us from the social constraints of society, and level the playing field - making all voices equal. Kind of Utopian isn't it? Well, online and in the world of technology, it at least starts out that way until someone finds away to cheat the system or work it to their advantage. Be it people cheating click-through advertising, online gamers using mods... MORE

Over at The Wisdom of The Illiterati they have a post on the weirdest free music offers. This one takes the cake (the leg? the roast?) for most un-nerving free music offer - a free music download in a package of Carl Buddig Lunch meat The offer is through a service called Puretracks, which seems to offer musci for sale in gloriously shitty and compromised WMA format.
And I know you were wondering (as to the consistent theme of my posts today), No, there is no Bat for... MORE

Radiohead has announced yet another opener for their tour. Bat for Lashes. The Fur & Gold LP has yet to really grow on me, but the video for What's a Girl to Do? entertains me to no end. One part X-Sports, one part Donnie Darko.
The song's pretty cool, too.
Natasha Khan could have followed in the footsteps of her family and played squash. Whilst i would love to play squash with her, i must say that i am happy she chose music over squash. However, if she had chosen squash i would never have had the confusion of wondering how the Klaxons managed to beat her dulcet sounds to take out the Mercury prize. can anybody explain this conundrum???
I am just in the midst of trying this out, but it could be a good work around for the slow loading time Mog sometimes experiences. Google has updated it's RSS Feed reader, Google Reader, and you can basically plug in a bunch of your favorite blogs and read the posts with out having to visit the sites. This is good for catching up on all the latest breaking Mog happenings.

Last time I posted, Ms. For Lashes was at 47 in the MOG 100. She now has slowed her crawl to #1 at #23. That's pretty good considering her album is almost a year old and look at her competition. I have been a bit slack in ... MORE
Bat For Lashes. Amazing.
From Brighton England. The singer, Natasha Khan, has a beautiful voice and the songs are well composed. Not your average songs, either, which I always admire.
I wish I could describe them better, but I definitely do not have the best music vocab.
Here's my favorite song by them
Thanks to the motivation of Contraband (see the motivating post here ), I went in search of legal downloads of the enigmatic strange angel known as Bat for Lashes. Lo and behold, iTunes is offering her track "Horse and I" as a free download this week (maybe more - I can't tell when they put it up there). Not only that, you can get this in the new "iTunes Plus" format - which means DRM-free and in higher quality. Such a deal. Of course it's still a rassa-frassin' ACC file,... MORE
