The lovely Etana, herself, signed a stack of Strictly The Best CDs for VP and MOG to give away! 5 lucky winners will receive an autographed CD in the mail!
While Jamaican atheletes won loads of bling at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing (Jamaicans won 11 medals including six gold!!) Jamaica's top dancehall artists were riding #1 tunes at home. To celebrate these global achievements, VP Records is giving away special autographed copies of Strictly The Best 2008 - the 39th installment in the STB series. This monster compilation includes the tune that Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt used for his celebration dance following his 100m victory at the Beijing Olympics - Elephant Man's remixed version of "Sweep." The album also features Ele's #1 hit "Nuh Linga" plus BIG CHOONS by Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Mavado, Busy Signal, Beres Hammond, Mr. Vegas, Tarrus Riley, Etana and more!

One of my fave tunes on Strictly The Best 2008 is "Mus Come A Road" by Mr Vegas:
The album hit stores on November 25th, for those mus cop a copy NOW...

Scene: The Roof Club in Port Antonio.
Time: Sometime in the fall of '90, I'm guessing.
It's a second-floor club, all fluorescent paint and black lights. Mrs. Ivylander and I are there with two Italian women who were staying at our hotel just out of town and bummed a ride with us. The room itself is no bigger than the first floor of our (modest) house. The sound system consists of two floor-to-ceiling speakers at least five feet across. As we come in, there is a Jamaican woman in front of each speaker (they are not employees, but enthusiastic customers) doing the butterfly. It just gets better from there....

not a dancehall person here but loved the post, is Mr Vegas the same as the Mr Vegas that does the Remixes like the one I posted of Franz Ferdinand's Ulysses song yesterday? Pretty good stuff!

Indiana - i couldn't find the post you referred to, but i think i know who you mean. I think the person you're thinking of is called Mr. Vega. I got super excited when those posts started popping up claiming new tunes and new remixes, but then realized that it wasn't a typo, this is a totally different person who makes totally different music. I hate when that happens, but oh well...
Thanks for checking this out Indiana!

i'm extending this contest until Monday at noon PST - so you have the rest of the weekend to enter!
things are looking great for you ivylander!

I am scratching my head trying to remember the original riddim that gave birth to Barrington Levy's "Prison Oval Rock" - I know I've heard an older tune than Junjo's but can I find it? No.
So...moving swiftly on, I suspect that my finest dancehall moment would be when the DJ first dropped the needle onto Don McCarlos' "Nice Time (Late Night Blues)" on the Fat Man label, when I was barely twenty. There's been a lot of water under a lot of bridges since then fe sure.
