So... I haven't seen much about Duke Special on mog so I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.
I recommend checking him out, his music is sort of piano, folky, jazzy, poppy, cabaret lol. Very hard to describe. It's quite theatrical and his striking appearance emphasises that.
He's from Belfast and actually sings in our distinctive Northern Irish accent, unlike other bands from here such as Snow Patrol who mostly sound like they could be from England.
He actually lives in the same area as me and went to the same school I did. I've met him a number of times in the store where I work, buying his groceries lol. And yes, he does wear the make-up and flamboyant clothes in day-to-day life. Which I find quite amusing, and he draws more than a few bemused stares from the public.
He's destined for big things, very talented musician and he's been nominated for a lot of impressive awards. This song is off his breakthrough album, Songs From The Deep Forest, although mog is insisting on tagging the album as Your Vandal EP.

Based on the song, I wouldn't imagine him to be the make up and flamboyantly-styled kind of guy. You're right about this sounding a bit theatrical. I like it and I've got loads of people to share this with. Thanks so much for your awesome picks!

i edited the post to include a photo of him, to give you an idea of his style. dreadlocks and all lol. with the make-up it's only really eyeliner, but lots of it. he's definitely unique! very nice guy too, signed autographs for my friends.

OMG. I can't believe that him! He kind of reminds me of the singer of Korn haha! I never ever would've guessed he'd write such low key, poppy stuff. Guess it's better to hear something first, rather than go off of the looks, which is too overly emphasized everywhere anyway! Thanks for adding that pic in there.

My favourite song on that album is still Freewheel... I think the film clip has a lot to do with it though. You should upload that one, too. It's not as boppy and cabaret as a lot of his other songs. A bit different.
