I've been meaning to write this series of posts for a few weeks now (I have two lined up so far). The idea behind "Music Connections" is to highlight bands that I connect to through 1 or 2 degrees of separation. In other words, music made by people I either know personally or know through people close to me. The first is The Shagbots.
The Shagbots is an Indie / Pop / Punk band that formed back in 2006. Though unpolished at times, it’s hard not to be hooked by their catchy tunes. I was recently introduced to their music through a good friend of mine whose cousin happens to be a band member. Out of the tracks I’ve been able to dig up by them, this track "Get Up Girl" is really sticking in my head.
You can listen to more from the band on their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/theshagbots)

Love your idea, Daniel!
This is a good tune, yup. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I'm not entirely sure about how I feel about the vocals. I am tending to decide that it's part of the charm.
I am not, however, touching the band name ;)

Thanks Anna. Punk usually isn’t my genre, but I like how dance-y this tune is. I was going to post about them a few weeks ago when they were part of a battle of the bands on supernova.com, but I wasn’t able to find a track to download and post on MOG. Unfortunately the voting is over and though they didn’t win the $200k grand prize, they did win $25k. Not bad for a local unsigned act.

awesome post! i don't listen to much punk myself, maybe had too much of it back in my younger years, but i love the power behind this guy's voice! i'm looking forward to your next installments!

Thanks Brittany, glad you liked it! If all goes well, I’ll post the second installment tomorrow around the same time.

As Anna said, the band name would go down well in the UK as Shag = Fuck......as for the music - not keen on the vocals....

Neill - Thanks to Austin Powers, Shag has a much more watered-down meaning in North America.
I’m surprised so many have commented on the vocals. Personally I didn’t find them that bad; I really like the chorus actually.
