I've been really loving these two bands since I picked up on them a few months ago.

If I were to sit down and iron out my thoughts on the subject, I know the Department Of Eagles "In Ear Park" would be my #1 choice for album of the year. The Acorns "Glory Hope Mountain" may have placed close to the top as well but alas, this album came out at the tail end of '07 and unfortunately had to be omitted on a technicality.

Both of these bands first albums are a bit precocious whereas, these, their second albums are a bit more focused and "grown-up", if you will.

The Acorn - Crooked Legs

Department of Eagles - No One Does It Like You (La Blogotheque video)

DoE: Very catchy. Sounds like Of Montreal with some Nilsson influence, nice melodies too.

...It's been about a month since my last post. These past weeks definitely haven't been the best of times. Hopefully next Christmas won't see me sitting bedside in an Intensive Care Unit.

But let's not talk about that.

I need my head filled with music right now, it seems that's the only way I've been keeping things sane these past few weeks.

More "Best of" lists are needed! These lists give me lot's of new bands I either missed out on over the year or maybe it's that you fine Moggers, like the addicts you are, like to keep a hidden stash for yourselves and don't always share right away.

Either way, the lists have been an ideal timesuck to blank out the day for a couple of hours and hunt down whats turning out to be some fine medicine.

Now, I'm really not much of a dancer (I guess I'm "Human", get it! Harharha...yeah, okay) at least I really haven't been much of one since I was maybe 22. I've never liked Dance as an "art form", I don't have any need to go clubbing although pogo-ing, when called for, and the occasional mosh pit do have their time and place whereas disco-dancing not so much. I watched Beyonce dance on Saturday Night Live last night and felt down right sorry for her. Dancing in itself is incredibly embarrassing and best left to those who are highly intoxicated inside dark night clubs, but before I digress much further I would like to get to my point, which is...

I like dance music.

Bunny Lake - Twisted Forever

Grafton Primary - Relativity

The Raconteurs - Old Enough

Just when I thought I had things all figured out along comes Jack White and his new best friends with "Consolers of the Lonely". I was a big fan of the White Stripes first two albums but something happened that I had no control over. A loudmouth redhead walked into my bar one sunday afternoon and she just wouldn't ever stop talking, she was from Seattle and she was a big fan of the White Stripes and she just kept yammering on and on and on. She came in every night there after for almost a year and she slowly became friends with a lot of the people I knew. The more she drank the more unstopable her vocal chords got. I didn't know what to do, she was so persistent and loud and her laugh was piercing. Then one night at a friends Halloween party she showed up dressed as a teddy bear and I was there dressed as an Unknown Russian Playwright (hard to explain, See Chekov's "The Seagull"). One thing led to another and we slept together.

The Raconteurs are a great band though, I was a little hesitant to pick up either of their two albums but I broke down and did. Just last week I started listening to this, their new one, "Consolers of the Lonely" and it's definitely stepped into my Top Ten state of affairs for the year 2008. I'll wait a few years before I go back to the later White Stripes stuff, it's better that way.
