"It's getting better every day

I still reserve the right to complain to you That being said, I rarely do You left me with nothing left to lose But I'm sure your heart is breaking too" --"Heartbroke" by The Good Life

Wooo!! On Friday I saw The Good Life in Philly. I went in there only knowing a few songs, but I loved a bunch of the new ones. The show was pretty rockin', not quite as much as Cursive, but it was good stuff.

I really like the songs, so I went to download them from iTunes. Wow! Much more mellow on the album. If you want some good lyrics and some chill, get the songs from the album. If you want something a little more lively, go see them live. Or do both :-D

"Oh you're so condescending

Your gall is neverending We don't want nothin', not a thing from you

Your life is trite and jaded

Boring and confiscated If that's your best, your best won't do" --"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister

LOOK... When I was very young, the cooler older mature sixth graders were playing this song on the bus. It infected my brain, and I haven't been the same since.
And that's all i'm going to say about that.

"You, I thought I knew you.

You I cannot judge. You, I thought you knew me, this one laughing quietly underneath my breath." --"Nightswimming" by R.E.M.

One of my most favorite concerts was of R.E.M. with Radiohead opening up for them. When I saw them it was for their Monster tour. Monster is my most favorite R.E.M. album, a close second is Automatic For The People.
Stereogum has this post celebrating the 15 year anniversary of Automatic called "Drive XV". They also have each song from the album covered by a different artist. They have Meat Puppets, Figurines, The Wrens among others. And what makes this really neat is that you can download mp3s of all the songs.
My favorites from the original album were Drive, Everybody Hurts, and Nightswiming. I also really enjoy The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite, and on Drive XV the cover is done by the band Rogue Wave, and I think they did an interesting take on that song.
BTW, Stereogum also ran similar post a while ago for the 10 anniversary of OK Computer by Radiohead. Also worth checking out!
(didja like how how i tied together my last few posts all together in this one!?)
