I can't be the first aggro-MOGger to post about this (in fact I think I may've posted on something regarding this before) but I'm putting it out there again because I feel very strongly about it: I have lost all respect for John Cougar Mellencamp.
"Our Country" has got to be one of the most painfully over-played desperate attempts to unite the marginalized red-blooded American masses behind a brand name... Ever.
...I absolutely loathe that piece of shit song, and the fact that I can't watch a football game on TV without hearing it 25 times.

I saw Mellencamp opening for the Kinks twenty-nine years ago, when he was John Cougar and he really really wanted to be the next Brooce.
Since then i have sporadically had some respect for him - his Gamblin' Bar Room Blues on the Tribute to Jimmie Rodgers album is just incredible - on the whole album (which includes Grisham and Garcia, Dylan, Willie and a bunch of others) only Steve Earle (In the Jailhouse Now), Dickey Betts (Waitin' for a Train) and Iris Diment (Hobo Bill's Last Ride) come close.
