I cannot apologise enough for my error in reporting Alton Ellis' death while he still clings to life. Having checked the information from three different sources (one of which quoted an apparently reliable source), I posted in good faith. I have personally apologised to Blakka for my error. Alton remains one of my great musical heroes, and a man whose path did cross with mine briefly thirty years ago.
Sorry.
Moving swiftly on... here is Eumir Deodato, live in concert in April 1973, recorded for the CTI label, covering a tune from "Kismet"

This guy Deodato really knows his way around a guitar. I llike what he does with the song. The only other version of this I've heard of is this one by Dionne Warwick from 1967.

It is not often that good deeds go unpunished..don't worry on this end, you made it more than clear how much you cared about the man. best wishes to you and his family...
The opening line of this tune sounds just like another tune which I can't name, but Deodato tears it up nice..I bet their was a lot of spritzer flowing that night. A CTI show musta been very groovy.

Damn, I hate it when I prematurely pronounce musicians/celebrities to be dead before their time! @;) At least you feel remorseful about it . . . . And the tune is jammin', love it.
p.s. and here I thought from the title of this post that Bloodtea or Bartelby were finally back & saw the error of their absent ways, bastards, haha!!!

Nothing to apologize for - an honest mistake. And if any atonement had been called for, this cut more than does it. Interesting the way Brazilians go for this song; Jobim really wanted it on the album he did with Sinatra, and together they do the only other (to me) tolerable version of this song. (By the way, this is considerably better than tolerable.)
