Here's another installment of my 'I'm So Early '90's It Hurts'(ISENIH). (The red button will emit the song 'Summertime' for your listening convenience). Does anyone miss The Sundays as much as I do? Damn I miss them so much. It's been 11 years since their last cd release 'Static And Silence'(which I've been listening to alot lately), ELEVEN YEARS! Geezus! How could they let so much time go by w/o releasing another album?

But my all time favorite The Sundays song has to be their cover of 'Wild Horses'. It's such a romantical(yes, my best friend made that word up, so it is a word, heh) song & I actually prefer this version over The Rolling Stones original. It's funny, I didn't even know it was a cover until I heard The Stones version on the radio years after I bought the cd 'Blind' in '92. I first thought to myself 'when did The Stones make a cover of The Sundays song?' Then I realized I'd been duped by a wonderful song covered by The Sundays, haha.

The Sundays were a London, England band that started in the late '80s. Their first album 'Reading, Writing & Arithmatic' was in '90 here in the US('89 in the UK). The 'Blind' cd was released in '92 and 'Static And Silence' was in '97. Apparently the band is on hiatus due to raising their two children. But after 11 years, you'd think they raised their kids enough dontcha think? haha Sigh. . . oh well. Maybe they'll put out a reunion album some day.

Wow, August. I'm on your side, man. Dig the Sundays. But they ain't the Stones. Hard to grasp that there's someone born in the latter half of the 20th century who didn't know "Wild Horses" was a Stones song. I'm assuming that you never heard the Gram Parsons/Flying Burritos cover version either. If not, you must rectify. Since Parsons was a major influence on Mick and Keith as they composed and recorded "Wild Horses," it's no shock that G.P. almost outdoes the original himself.

I liked listening to this a lot.  Thanks.

About the widgets.  Have you tried refreshing after each change.  I noticed that I could get one change to hold, but not subsequent changes.  I move/change then refresh...then move/change again then refresh again.

Maybe I have the unnatural fascianation with widgets.  Let me know if that helps.

Mike I've enjoyed The Stones but never enough to buy an album. I have all 3 Sundays cds. And I grew up in bumfuck Portland, OR in the  '60s - '70s where the radio options were extremely limited.  So I'm still discovering songs that got played on radio everywhere else & most other people know. If it wasn't on the top 40 it didn't get played in Portland. Grrrrrr!

And no I haven't heard the G.P. version. Care to upload it to your page? Otherwise I won't look for it.

Annie were you familiar w/The Sundays? All 3 of their albums are posted on the dark side if you should want to hear more. And thanks for the tip on the widgets. But I don't think the refreshing will help the last songs played, top artists this week & recently added widgets. There's something more that's an issue w/those.

I know this song and Where The Story Ends...that's it.  But I always loved her voice.  I will check them out.

Your widget issue is bigger then assumed.  Yeah, I can't help those issues, but I deleted those widgets long ago.  My "Top Artists This Month" widget works just fine though.  Go figure.

Annie I was going to post a Sundays album but I did a search & they are covered over there. Don't know if you have the same contacts though. Let me know if you need me to load them up for you, it's no problem. And yea, the widget issue is more complicated, for sure.

Unca Sam one can only hope they do a G 'N R thing. Keep your fingers & toes crossed!

Which song are you referring to Kev, I posted two? How odd that you'd have it going through your head all day. I am quite a mind reader! You're right they are an underrated band.

the music is not playing for me but i'm very familiar with the sundays. its funny, but like you i didn't know that wild horses was a stones cover till years after i heard the sundays version.

i do miss them and was really into them in the early 90's. i saw them once. it was a great show and it's a hard one to forget, because between songs during the silence some dude yelled, "I want to fuck Harriet Wheeler!" Her reaction was so funny, after her initial shock she giggled and said, "thanks".

Pinkerton thanks for making me feel really old, ahahahahaha!

Anna that song is not very well suited to Shirley's voice, she sounds like Garbage(seriously, even though I'm making a joke). It surprises me that  she doesn't sound very good cause I've seen/heard other live clips of them & she sounds great. Maybe she was just having a bad voice day. The music sounds great though.

Mike I had a feeling you might be into them too. Glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't know The Stones original. That's so cool you got to see them, funny story too. The one time they came to Portland I found out too late so tix were sold out but I did go & listen outside the venue since it was a small club. I was able to sit in my car & hear the whole concert & they were really excellent live.

Sorry, each to his own and all that, but I had to turn the Sundays off after about 80 seconds. I'm not familiar with them, and just don't "get" what they did to the song. that style of female vocalising almost always leaves me cold.

Whether it was written about Marianne Faithfull or not is debatable (Mick Jagger denies it, but the refrences to "stage right" make sense given that Marianne was an actress)), but surely the point of the song is to draw the analogy that the singer's love is like an addiction, thus making it far more suited to the Stones/FBBs in the early Seventies; indeed you could even argue that it's a song about addiction ("I watched you suffer a dull aching pain, now you've decided to show me the same"). I just don't get any of that from the version you posted, sorry

Baudolino I totally agree w/the 'to each their own credo' & I could see how you might be turned off by Harriet's vocalizing since it has a nasal quality to it that could get on one's nerves. I can be open minded enough to see that. Many of my favorite singers have detractors due to their unusual vocal style, so I definitely hear what your saying. I also think The Sundays version is more focused on the relationship/love facet of the song, so it's understandable why they drug aspect wouldn't come through as strongly.

Kev I love how we all effect one another in the music we listen to, like the domino effect!

Well, it will only work for small venues I'm sure, or extremely loud bands, lol. I think that's the only time I've done that though.

Tyler awww shucks, thanks! Missed you too. I've been here & I've been posting. Just haven't been posting as much lately. Where have you been?

I have had some major personal stuff going on which has kept me from posting as much as I would like but I've still been here. Look at my page. Guess you've just missed my posts since we aren't Trusted mogs(or at least I haven't trusted you yet, but will rectify that now).

ahahahaha!!! You guys!  hah!

This post was a fun read!  It's starts off all light and fresh with Summertime.  I forgot how well done that song is with the nice timed bowow woo bowwo..and the horns.  Nice one.

And when I hear the Rolling Stones version of Wild Horses, I think of that dreamy version these Sundays do.  Funny comments you all!

Omfg, is it really the real Sunshine Daydream, weighing in on my post w/a comment? hehe You are missed darlin'. Yea, isn't 'Summertime' a wonderful song, it's so beautiful as are most of The Sundays songs.

And their version of Wild Horses ALWAYS brings a lump to my throat, w/it's gorgeous melancholy.

OOh I am not familar with this group at all but I am enjoyiing the music from your page. Sort of psychelic. Raising children is different for some people. I know that some people are able to handle the career with the kids and others are not able to balance it that well. Don't beat up on them! 8) They are trying [[Augusts1]]

Ilay, yea, this song brings back so many relationship memories for me too, I totally hear ya on that tip. And if it is ISMNIH for you then so be it! You gotta tailor your I'm So Nineties It Hurts, ya know, heh.

Jennifer I guess it is kinda psychedelic in a way. Glad you're enjoying this, I know it's not quite in your musical palette. That is quite true, every parent raises their kids as they see fit. (((((Jennifer))))))
