For some time now, my world is being rocked heavily and steadily by Late of the Pier.

~ Description

If you are currently in the mood for extremely sophisticated, ultra serious music, move along, nothing to listen to here. If, however, you can fancy some all over the place, self-indulgent, bathed in synths and scratched with guitars music, look no further, and wave your Gary Numan flag. Like the spot on album review I read at NME says, "Late Of The Pier said they wanted to make music that makes drugs redundant. With ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ you can just say no and still feel like Winehouse’s frontal lobe".

Try them on for size and if they feel a bit tight in the crotch, that means that, just like a pair of really skinny jeans, they fit perfectly.

I still can't make my mind up about these guys.... but skinny jeans, I can get on board with...

Andrea, I always said that you are a woman of good taste :)

I'm seeing them live in Leeds in early October, I'm so happy and ready for them! I will report back.

Joxy, I think they are a perfect version of what they are, if that helps.

Both the band and the jeans, that is :)

Loving it.  So reminiscent of Gary Numan, it's uncanny.  Love the beat.  Wonder whether they have a disc out in the states yet? The answer is "YES", digital 5-song EP...sounds like something I've gotta have!

a free mp3 of this song is floating around on legit sites like ilike.com and such.  I've got it and I'm loving it!

Eric, yay! And I'm glad to read that the Numan resemblance doesn't turn you off, I'm with you right there.

The album got released on my birthday, they must like me very much :P

Is that the Heartbeat EP or the Echoclistel Lambietroy one?

And that's cool about the free mp3, I had no idea!

Eric5776 says:

The one they have out there digitally in the states is the Echoclistel one.  There's a Kitsune Tabloid remix compilation on emusic featuring cuts from them, Hot Chip, The Kills, Hercules and Love Affair, Calvin Harris, B-52's and others (all remixes) but the label requires to d/l the whole album and I only have 3 songs left.

The Bears are Coming is the LOTP track.  Heard of it?

Hum.  This is a big upset.  I only come to your mog for "extremely sophisticated, ultra serious music"  Anna, Anna...what to do with you...?

((shaking head in dissappointment))

Seriously these guys sound pretty bad ass!  Thanks for letting us in finally. : )

Well, since you're moving to England this might just well be the last time I can brag, so better to do it now. I've seen these lads 3 times in the past half year. ^^ They're wicked. First time it was with all these indie kids and the whole room was moving and dancing. Second time was at a free festival and except for us lot (about ten people) at the front no one knew them. XD So we were dancing and raving and what not, and everyone looked like us and wondered what drugs we took. But that was great, a lot of space just to do your stuff. Last time was so crowded I was pushed against the fence and couldn't dance.

They're a fun bunch. Some dancy tunes and some more experimental weirdness. I gave the album 85/100, but not here. :)

Glad you're enjoying them Anna! Hope you'll enjoy the live gig. :)

This album is catching on quickly. My friend Claire emailec me yesterday about it. I've had it for a week or so and am digging it. I don't even think it's available here in the U.S. yet.

Right now I am with JoxBridge on them... kinda dig - kinda not... will have to give them a few more turns...

Very Gary though - totally hear that... & that's what I am digging the most about them methinks !!!

Mmm, dancey. I like it!

Nice combo of live drums and synth.  The look of this band, though, seems right up your alley.  I'd agree with the Gary Nueman comparison.

Eric, good, that's the EP one should have, the other one is full of a song's remixes. Yes, I have that song, it's in the album {which I bought}, but I don't know what the remix sounds like. If you are hungry, send me a MOG-mail ;)

Helen...blushes...

I once had a vital sign that read: my MOG is where sophisticated music comes to die. Maybe I need to repeat it haha

It's always my pleasure to share some music crack :)

Yummy new avatar!

Stefan, your concert palette is disgusting! 3 bloody times!

Thank you for the 3 COUGHffs!COUGH reviews. I am now even more excited for them. Quirky synths and imaginary drugs, bring it on!

Oh right, I keep forgetting that you are CHEATING on us with your other blog haha fair score :)

Mark, hey, you've been an undercover enjoyer, too! Hehe

I am pretty sure that they will catch on infectiously and contagiously. I got Late of the Pier and I don't want a stinking remedy.

Lizzieness, yay! See, that's why I always include more than one songs in band posts....gotta set up multiple traps...mwuahaha!

Hope that your final verdict is a positive one :)

Dale, dancey enough to dance with drummers' sisters?! hahaha :)

Tyler, I don't know what you're implying.

You're very welcome. I feel a bit of Scissor Sisters when falsetto kicks in at Bathroom Gurgle :)

Glad I could give a good guffaw darlin'! Yea, I'd agree on the SS sound in B Gurgle. They also seem to have forgotten how to wear shirts for a majority of the time(or maybe still learning how to wear them, not sure which, hehe).

So like The Cars, down to the Ric Ocasek-ish vocals; some of the other album tracks have clear Roxy Music and Talking Heads influences. Lots of fun for sure, but really, can you do it any better than the influences already did? (Nonetheless, if I were in Leeds when they play here, I'd go and see them for sure.)

Pekka, regarding your parenthetical content, true, but only because you wouldn't have a choice. Mwuahahah!

Jonh ha ha ha all your synths are belong to us! Screen his call next time :)

Oh, and PS, last night I was waiting for a friend outside a bar, and suddenly my ears catch the sweet melody of Space and the Woods coming from inside the bar. Right here, in Thessaloniki. To say that I was taken aback would be an understatement.

With the sheer volume (heh) of music being unleashed on us all of the time, I'm not surprised that these guys are newnewnew to me. But I can sure see why we go-go for them. And especially why you likes them. Anna. It's as if guys from the Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons and Maximo Park formed a super-group - with a robot! And, at least on "Bathroom Gurgle," they got that supple-voiced gal from Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" to sing back-up vocals. Check that coda. Holy operatic diva!

Nice to see them getting attention. Usually I read about these new young bands in Artrocker, and they go totally ignored in the U.S. (see Good Shoes, Pete & the Pirates, XX Teens, So So Modern, etc.). I guess if Anna gets turned onto something, the rest of y'all will follow lol. Hey Anna, are you in the mood for any Finnish folk metal? :)

Mikey, have I told you that I wuve you recently? If not.........I wuve you! That's a brilliant description, and one that I will treasure FOREVER. Made my night, sir :)

poe, haha thou shalt not pretend, woman!

Glad you came over to the unsophisticated side...we promise to show you a good time :)

Tony, bah, that's an exaggeration. It's just that it's different if someone you know quite well (even e-know) recommends something to you. I pay more attention and respect to MOGgers than any magazine/newspaper etc.

Sorry, you lost me at "folk" ;)

Good to know that, Charles! The video is so memorable that I can't help but think of it every time I listen to that song hehe :)
